Carbon-Metered Parking

Carbon-Metered Parking is an award winning service which uses RingGo to automatically link parking charges to the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the vehicle being parked.
How does it work?
Where CMP is offered, someone using a more environmentally-friendly vehicle will benefit and be charged less for their parking. Those driving vehicles with higher emissions usually pay more.
Why?
With road transport a significant factor in the production of carbon dioxide and therefore global warming, the aim of the service is to make people aware of their vehicle's emissions and, where possible, encourage them to use more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
Is it successful?
Carbon-Metered Parking was offered for Council parking across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames during 2009 and 2010. In March 2010, the service was recognised by the UK's leading national parking awards, when it won the British Parking Environment Award.
